B2 Lofts is an urban infill consisting of the renovation of an existing historic building and an adjacent new building. It includes six loft style apartments and two street-level commercial spaces, one of which houses the Lunenburg office of the acclaimed firm of MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects who designed the project: “On first glance, one might be forgiven for not distinguishing between the new and the old structures – not because the modern one attempts to emulate or nostalgically quote historical elements or styles, but rather because it learns from them.”  As you face the buildings on Montague, the handsome charcoal-coloured gabled roof structure on the right, with its round-headed label window, was built circa 1873 by Lunenburg businessman, Lewis Anderson. The gambrel roofed building on the left is new and features asymmetrical windows and barn doors giving it a modern feel while taking inspiration from the traditional shop fronts nearby.  Visit the architects’ studio and then view these structures from Bluenose Drive to appreciate the full effect of this multi award-winning development.

Many thanks to owners Marilyn and Brian MacKay-Lyons
